As a Perl vendor, Active State is hardly a disinterested party, but the
results of their latest market suvey

suggest that that meme is itself dead. Perl has become so ubiquitous that
it has become the environment, and "Fish don't notice water", so it
doesn't get the media attention that new shinies do. After a period in the
doldrums, the community's become refreshed and started renewing itself.
