True. Basically the doorbell just calls the registered number so it
goes out to the PSTN and back. Solves the wiring problem but could have
other issues.
Years ago we had an office in a building up on Consumers Road. That was
the system that they used to buzz people in after hours. When we left
we ported our phone number back to my house but the building forgot to
remove the entry. For a long time we would still get calls from people
trying to get into the building using the wrong door code and wake us up
in the middle of the night.
Our current office has the same system. Someone buzzes, it calls our
number which goes to the PSTN, up to our PBX in North York and then back
to one of the VoIP phones in our office on Queen Street.
